—
As you may know, we have been working since 1 year on the launch of this educational training program for bicycle mechanics in South Africa.
After a few months of discussions with our partners, we were finally able to start the first training session on the Basics of Bicycle Mechanics (10 hours).
It took place on June 29 and 30 in the Township of Khayelitsha, with 4 young women from the Grassroots Youth Academy.
During these two days of training, our students worked on :
– How to wash and lubricate a bike?
– How to repair a puncture?
– How to adjust a derailleur and brakes?
– How to change the derailleur cable and brake cable?
– How to change a handlebar tape?
Our students, Ivy, Lili, Esona and Sinesipho, were studious, focused, and joyful during these 2 days of training.
A real pleasure to be able to provide them with new skills!
We are proud of them and happy to have finally been able to launch this project which is so close to our hearts.
Indeed, being able to train young South African women from disadvantaged communities is a real privilege.
This first training session confirms that our project “ticks many boxes” :
–> First: “Women empowerment”;
–> Second: Mobility and sustainable development;
–> Third: Entrepreneurship;
–> Fourth: Bicycle promotion
Our goal for the year 2024 is to train 100 female bicycle mechanics, and we will do everything to achieve this goal.
For 2025, the objective would be to train twice as many, or 200 young women.
To achieve these ambitious goals, we will need partners, sponsors, and quite simply your support.
Also, if you think you can help this associative project in any way, then contact us, and let us know your ideas.
